Beaches

Right on our doorstep, only a short walk down from the Lodge through the Fynbos, Stanford’s Bay offers the only sandy beach along the mainly rocky Gansbaai/De Kelders shoreline. Since the water inside the bay is quite shallow, it usually is a couple of degrees warmer than the open sea water – which makes it an ideal place to relax and enjoy safe swimming in the sea. Just take one of our fluffy beach towels and perhaps a picnic basket and make your day!

If you are looking for a place where you can see your lone footprints fade into the distance behind you while exploring the deserted beach, and want to be reminded of the countless generations who have walked these beaches before you, then you might be in the mood for ‘The Plaat’, a truly unique beach, part of De Kelders and the Walker Bay Nature Reserve. At the end of the famed Duiwelsgat Hiking Trail that meanders along seven kilometers of the rocky coastline with access directly from Crayfish Lodge, you will find what you are looking for. Download a brochure with map here.
If you don’t mind the short drive, you will be rewarded with another two unspoilt beaches at Franskraal and at Pearly Beach, small villages about 10 and 20 minutes away. As the name suggests, its beach is gorgeous and always worth the trip.
