Crayfish Lodge Safety Guidelines
To make your holiday as relaxed as possible, we would like to give you the following guidelines in hand:
When visiting any major city in any country worldwide, visitors should take certain safety precautions, and ours is no different. To make a visit to Cape Town (and all other cities) as enjoyable as possible, we encourage visitors to apply our basic safety tips, valid in general, but in particular applicable to bigger cities:
- Avoid carrying large sums of cash, having cameras or video cameras loose, leaving belongings unattended (or visible in the car), and in general take advice from locals on where to go after dark. Try not to walk alone. Take special precautions at lonely lookout points, especially at dusk or after dark.
- Do not allow strangers to assist you in your transactions at ATMs
- Be constantly alert of your surroundings and aware of things that might look out of place
- If possible, let always someone know where you are going and how long you expect to be
- Street children and beggars may approach you for a handout. Many social workers counsel against giving money to the children as it usually gets handed over to an older figure or is used for drugs. If you wish to help, rather make a donation to a registered charity.
- At night, park in a secure, well-lit area.
- Keep photocopies of all valuable documents in a safe place.
- Take the same health precautions as you would travelling elsewhere.
Visitor Safety Support – It is important to report any safety incident; use the following numbers:
- Safety and Security (Police) – 10111
- Emergency – 107
- Emergency from a cell phone – 021 480 7700

Should you be involved in any visitor safety incident, Cape Town Tourism in partnership with Protection and Emergency Services run a successful Visitor Support Programme to further assist you. Contact us or the helplines directly for more information on +27 (0)21 487 6800 – because we care.
